ISO 9001 : the draft standard is already on sale
Undoubtedly ISO 9001 is one of the most popular quality standards. More than 1.2 million organisations have already been certified against this standard and their number keeps increasing.
Certified organizations feel the standard helps them to become a more consistent competitor in the marketplace. With a certified quality management system in place, they can save time, money and resources while optimizing their operational performance with fewer errors and higher profits.
At this moment standard ISO 9001 is under revision. The new version is scheduled to be available by the end of 2015. The draft follows the new structure that applies to all new management standards. This will allow the user to integrate all his management standards in a single system.
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) has already completed some initial work to provide an identical structure, text and common terms and definitions for all management standards of the future. The revised structure will also make the standards easier to read – leading to a better understanding for those tasked with implementing them.
The most notable revision to ISO 9001:2008 is the inclusion of risk management. Standard writers think risk to business and products/services deserves to be formally addressed in the quality management system.
It is very possible that risk management may be addressed in many segments of the revised ISO 9001 standard including leadership, planning, control of changes, control of external processes/products etc.
