Phishing, cryptolockers, data breaches - cyber threats are a daily reality. "You can secure your systems as well as you like," says Glenn De Smedt, IT expert and trainer of NBN's ISO/IEC 27001 training, "but if someone in your organisation clicks on a wrong link, the hackers are inside. The human aspect remains the biggest challenge."
Yet you can protect your organisation structurally better. One of the most powerful tools for this is an Information Security Management System (ISMS) according to the international standard ISO/IEC 27001 - and that is exactly what you will learn at NBN.
From theory to practice
Glenn speaks from experience. He started his career in IT and was tasked with implementing ISO 27001 at a large Organisation. "That was my first touch with ISO management systems. The audit was successful, and it started rolling: internal audits, external audits, training. It came very naturally."
His lessons do not start from dry theory, but from real practical experience.
"I always say: don't make it more difficult than necessary. ISO 27001 says what you have to do, but not how. That leaves room to adapt the management system to the reality of your Organisation. That's how you create something that really works."
An interactive training course full of hands-on exercises
ISO/IEC 27001 training at NBN consists of several modules - from basic to control training. According to Glenn, the approach is interactive, concrete and immediately applicable.
"The participants themselves reflect on their organisation: who are we, what do we do, what risks do we face? We practice with risk analyses, internal audits, and setting up controls. This way you discover step by step how ISO 27001 works in practice."
Annex A, the part of the standard with concrete security controls, is also discussed in detail.
"We divide the audits into themes such as governance, networking or application security. Participants analyze them, make plans and discuss their approach with each other. That way they also learn from each other's experience."
For whom is this training intended?
The course is suitable for anyone involved in information security - from IT professionals to managers.
"A basic IT background helps," says Glenn, "but middle management and directors also get a lot out of it. It's important that executives understand what's behind ISO27001 and how to apply it in their organisation ."
After the course you will understand:
"Those who take the course," Glenn says, "can immediately start working as project managers, coordinators or security managers."
An investment in your career
The demand for cybersecurity experts is greater than ever.
"The industry is red-hot," says Glenn. "Consultants with ISO 27001 knowledge have an edge. And internal staff can also distinguish themselves - they better understand how their organisation addresses security and can use that knowledge to grow."
So with NBN training, you not only strengthen your organisation, but also your own career path.
Why choose NBN?
"The teaching materials at NBN are very modern," says Glenn. "You also have the online e-learning (Explorer) to help you prepare. And the trainers are all professionals with years of experience."
He laughs, "And there are also tasty cookies and sandwiches - that's also worth mentioning."
