According to Fedris, the federal occupational risk agency, the number of workplace accidents increased by 9.5% between 2020 and 2021. Health and safety in the workplace deserves more focus than ever. And that's why there's ISO 45001, the management standard that guides your organisation towards an optimal company policy. Find out more about ISO 45001 and discover how you can get started with our Master Track for ISO 45001.

By focusing on a safe and healthy work environment, your organisation can reduce costs such as sick leave and insurance premiums. You also increase productivity and employee satisfaction. It's a win-win.

So where do you begin? ISO 45001 offers an ideal starting point. This international management standard establishes the requirements for a management system that revolves entirely around occupational health and safety.

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 (Safety and health management systems - Requirements with guidelines for use) helps organizations create a healthy and safe workplace. And it does so in offices, factories, open spaces and other work environments. The standard has thus replaced the former Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001, the British standard for healthy and safe work used internationally. Organizations that had OHSAS 18001 certification were given until March 2021 to switch to ISO 45001 to maintain recognized certification.

Why apply ISO 45001?

The main benefits of an occupational health and safety management system in accordance with ISO 45001 include:

  • ‍Reduceaccidents and illnesses: this is the intended result of an effective Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) management system.
  • ‍Lowercosts: you spend less on insurance premiums, while your employee retention increases - reducing the need to look for short or long-term replacements.
  • ‍Betterreputation: a organisation that makes the well-being and safety of its own employees a priority enjoys greater prestige in the outside world.
  • ‍Moreinvolvement: everyone, including board members, is given an active role to create a health and safety culture.
  • ‍ Tailoredto any organisation: both public and private organizations can apply the standard, regardless of size or sector.
  • ‍Trumpin employer branding: candidates who might be working for you would like to be sure that they will end up in a healthy and safe working environment.
