Want to contribute to the transition from a linear to a circular economy?

Circular economy: three new ISO standards

ISO launched three new standards within the circular economy domain on May 22. These are three standards within the ISO 59000 family.

‍ISO 59004 'Circular economy - Vocabulary, principles and guidance for implementation' provides a framework on the jargon, CE principles and regulations, and is applicable for just about any organisation.

ISO 59010 'Circular Economy - Guidance on the transition of business models and value networks' offers a framework to facilitate the transition from a linear to a circular business model.

ISO 59020 'Circular economy - Measuring and assessing circularity performance' provides a framework for measuring and assessing circularity.

Circular economy in European context

New European standards will be developed regarding circular economy, specifically suited to the European context and regulations. Some of these future standards will be based on ISO standards.

This work is now being launched within CEN/TC 473 and it is possible to follow up or contribute to these projects through the competent Belgian standards committee NBN/I323. The committee currently includes about 30 experts from different sectors; universities and research centers, sector federations, but also private companies, independent experts and authorities.

The new ISO standards within the circular economy domain are now available on the NBN platform.

You also part of the Belgian commission?

From the Belgian committee, they closely follow ISO and European standardization projects. It is therefore up to them to comment on the content of each draft standard, and to vote in each phase.

In this way, you too can contribute to the further development of these standards, and help shape the Belgian position on ISO and European decisions. As a member of the Belgian committee, you can also participate concretely in the drafting of the standards content at the international or European level, together with other experts from around the world.

This way, you are the first to know about developments and get access to strategic info. This allows you to anticipate changes, but also to adjust the content of these standards by representing your own interests. In addition, it is also the ideal way to increase your knowledge and expand your network.
